We just got our best PLE of the year by WWE! Say what you want to say about women’s wrestling, this event was hands down better than WrestleMania. Most of the matches were clean, and every woman was at their best! And dare I say, almost all of them but one gets a 5 out of 5 from me. And even then, that one was still really damn good.
There wasn’t any bad matches, every single one was amazing, mostly definitive and high action. Okay, so it’s going to look biased because I’m also a woman writing this, but ah well. Anyway, I wanted them to go all out with this event and have tons of matches in order to really showcase the women, and that’s exactly what they did! Well, strap in, this is a long one (I’ll try to keep it at a decent length)!
Women’s Intercontinental Triple Threat: Bayley vs Becky Lynch vs Lyra Valkyria
Prediction: Becky Lynch
RESULT: BECKY LYNCH
Thoughts & Ranking: 5/5
What a way to start the event. You had two of the four horsewomen in this match. If any of you follow me, you know I haven’t been a fan of Bayley much since I haven’t really seen her at her best. But holy shit, everyone was so good in this match. It was a definitive win, no extra drama (and you know how much I love drama). But I did really like the story between these three. I love that pin that Becky did at the end to win her belt, it was so unique and done so cleanly too!
Side note–Lyra is a lucky gal for getting to work with both Becky and Bayley. That’s a lot of mentorship that she’ll earn. If she were in a game, I swear you’d see her XP bar shoot up. She’s already really good, but it’s stuff like this that if I were a wrestler, I would try to learn everything.
I’m not mad at Becky winning at all. I would have preferred Lyra. But having Becky dominate this belt for a while will really put more value to it!
NXT Champion: Jacy Jane vs Jordynne Grace
Prediction: Jordynne Grace
RESULT: JACY JANE
Thoughts & Ranking: 5/5
I picked Jordynne for this because she’s one of the few ladies I do know from NXT. But I’m so glad they included the NXT women’s here. They 👏🏻 are 👏🏻 so 👏🏻 damn 👏🏻 good!!! If anyone who hasn’t gotten into NXT (myself included), it’s time we all head over there.
Just when you thought Jordynne will pick up the win, her lady in the corner, Blake Morgan, hits her with the belt and giving Jacy the win. What a heel turn!! Executed nicely. So nicely that both me and my husband looked at each other and was like, “What happened there? We must watch NXT!”
You just know a match is good when it makes someone curious about what is going on.
Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Championship: Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair vs Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez vs Sol Ruca & Zaria vs Kabuki Warriors
Prediction: Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez
RESULT: RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ & ROXANNE PEREZ
Thoughts & Ranking: 5/5
Who is Sol Ruca and why do I love her so much?! Before Friday Night SmackDown, I didn’t know who she was, but she already had my attention. By Sunday, she solidified that! What’s her background? A high jumper? Because girl can jump!
Also, for anyone who’s played Baldur’s Gate 3, wouldn’t Zaria make the best Karlach?! 😍
Anyway, before I get too into the match, I wanted to point out the energy that both Kairi and Asuka brought. They came out first and kept dancing through everyone’s entrance. I gotta learn some of those moves LOL. So happy to see the Kabuki Warriors back together.
I would have been happy with whoever won this match, but having the ladies of Judgment Day win will definitely further some story on their end. I swear Liv Morgan is coming back a baby face. Also, the way things are playing out between Raquel and Rox, is adorable. The little head pats!!
And speaking of random people becoming friends, let’s talk about Alexa and Charlotte. The way Charlotte pulled Alexa out of Zaria’s spear was the sweetest thing ever! But hey, they’re not friends …. LOL.
Speaking of Charlotte, the pop she had during the match was tear-jerking. Did I miss something?! Her slight character change was a bit odd for a bit, but I can live with it. And wow, I now no longer think she’s underwhelming. Look, I wasn’t around the sport when she was at her best. So, she was hyped up for me, then I was let down. But that has changed after Evolution. I was so happy for her!!
This was one of my favourite matches of the night. Tag teams is starting to become of my favourites now. Especially with what is going on with the men’s division on SmackDown and now we have all these ladies getting teamed up. I love it so much!
Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton vs Trish Stratus
Prediction: Tiffany Stratton
RESULT: TIFFANY STRATTON
Thoughts & Ranking: 5/5
How is Trish over 50?! Talk about defying everything. She can move well and still put on an amazing match. And she is GORGEOUS!! Annnnd she’s Canadian 😉.
Remember when we all thought Charlotte and Tiffany would be amazing as a “passing the torch” thing? Well, we all saw what happened with that one. Sorta fell flat, no chemistry and in the end, underwhelming.
But with Trish? That was perfect!!! The match was flawless. Tiffany winning this also gives her the best current champion run as well. She’s had decent matches and has been defending lots. Seriously, best “passing of the torch” match.
No-holds Barred Match: Naomi vs Jade Cargill
Prediction: Naomi
RESULT: JADE CARGILL
Thoughts & Ranking: 4/5
Okay, I think I found the match that didn’t have the same energy. Even though this was a no-holds match. I guess that means they can use any prop they want. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy this match. It was fun, ruthless and both ladies put on quite the show. I loved how Jade did her finisher from the top rope and sending Naomi face first into the table. That was pretty epic.
I won’t lie, I gasped when she went into that table. FACE FIRST!! I could never. With Jade winning this match, both me and my husband now had a super strong feeling at this point that Naomi will be cashing in. Before this event, my husband was even saying that he’d love to see her cash in on this PLE as it would really round out Evolution. This being an all-women’s event, it would just be perfect time to do it.
Battle Royale for Championship
Prediction: Stephanie Vaquer
RESULT: STEPHANIE VAQUER
Thoughts & Ranking: 5/5
Going in, I straight off wanted Vaquer to win. She’s my girl. Seriously, my D&D character is basically her, sooo of course I wanted her to win. AND YAY!! She did!! I’ve never seen a Battle Royale until the men’s and I really like this concept! It’s so much fun. It’s also a good way to get your entire roster out!
My only complaint … Michin. LOL. I just can’t with her.
Besides that. This was a blast to watch. The final four came down to Nikki Bella, Nia Jax, Lash and Stephanie. The way Lash can pick up Nia Jax is insane. Those two are powerhouses. I was also surprised to see Lash being the final two. Stephanie doing the Devil’s Kiss on the apron at the end to secure her win there was great!
I thought it was hilarious that so many of them did the Nikki Bella dance thing. Chelsea Green was so funny the whole time! Looks like we’ll be seeing some sort of clash between Green and Bella!
And that girl who got thrown onto the table and did the handstand thing all the way to the ring! That was awesome! Seriously, these NXT girls are next level. All the talent coming in is so good. The future is bright for WWE, honestly.
My highlight moment was Stephanie’s speech at the end, “Wrestling is my first language.” That’s for sure going to be on a shirt. Loved her speech, in both English and Spanish. Ugh, I love her!
World Championship: Iyo Sky vs Rhea Ripley
Prediction: Iyo Sky (Naomi cash in)
RESULT: NO ONE - NAOMI CASH IN
Thoughts & Ranking: 5/5
Hearing the crowd chant, “This is wrestling,” sums up this match perfectly. But what started as a match between friends sure took a turn. They had me a few times too with the count! This was a long match but there was not one moment where it felt boring. These two powerhouses sure as hell can put on a fight. They work so well together!
I didn’t expect Iyo to take out the ref! Then in the moment of frustration, their friendship went out the window, as the two of them beat the hell out of each other right into the audience. Then you had Iyo go on top of all those boxes and jumped onto Rhea. The way I gasped!!! This was what I had expected for the no-holds match.
But anyway, not only did Mami brought her brutality, but Iyo did too. Like this whole event was wild, so by the time this one started, I was like I wonder how are they going to up this? And god, they delivered! I love these two women so much! You know how said I am that Iyo didn’t get to defend and now she’s lost the belt?! Sigh.
And just when you thought all was done, Naomi came running out and cashes in! It was so clean too. No antics, no nothing. I won’t lie, it was good that there was no winner before it. I didn’t want to see either Rhea or Iyo seem weak against each other. Naomi took her opportunity when they were both down and voila.
But now!! We may see more of Iyo and Rhea TOGETHER!! I won’t be mad if they become a tag team, haha.
Outfit of the Night
HOW DO I PICK?! Legit question. Not only was this PLE amazing on every front, but everyone ATE!!! There was no bad outfit. Legit a fashion show!
My forever favourites: Rhea Ripley, Stephanie Vaquer, Kairi Sane, Asuka, Alexa Bliss, Giulia, and Charlotte Flair.
Winner: I might have to give it to Naomi! The bajillion razors she had on her gear was really damn cool!
Women Kicking Ass
Okay, I’m sitting close to 1800 words now, so let’s wrap it up. Know what this event says? Women sure can kick ass! And in the age where conservatism is making a comeback (for some strange reason), we need this more than ever. To see the crowd go nuts over these ladies and to see every single one of them not miss a beat felt amazing.
This just shows that the ladies can be a main event at big PLEs. I need another Evolution event!
It would mean the world to me if you can help support my work by buying me a coffee. I know a monthly subscription is too much for most. 🥰🖤
We need to make Evolition a yearly event. I know the past few months I've argued that things have been heavily overbooked, especially Night of Champs and SNME. So to get a PLE that's full of spectacular wrestling with clean finishes, or overly gimmicked results with one twist (the cash in) makes it so much more memorable.
Naomi def for the outfit of the night, we noticed the razorblades! Trish and Tiffany was the passing of torch we wanted from Charlotte, as shes now the most active champion currently. And when I thought I couldn't love Rhea and Iyo enough they put on maybe match of the year? The only doubt I have in mind is if it's better than the triple threat at mania! But give the women division all their flowers
